Information Technology

Information technology explained.

What is Information Technology?

Information Technology (IT) is the use of computers and other systems to store, receive, and send digital information. This includes the deployment, administration, and maintenance of all computer and digital solutions to support an organization's needs for managing electronic data. Information technology encompasses computers, software, keyboards, desktop applications, websites, phones, identity management, cyber security, computer security, and more.

An organization's IT solution is crucial for an organization's success, as it comprises the infrastructure and systems needed to support and enhance operations, while also protecting against cyber threats. This allows organizations to be more productive, collaborative, and competitive within the market. Good frontend implementation of IT standards can also lead to better customer experiences and facilitate more business.

Though proper IT support is an important achievement for any successful organization, articles mention that actions toward this goal are too often underfunded and understaffed. This can leave systems more vulnerable and prone to failure, increasing costs put towards reactive measures rather than proactive strategies.
