Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)

What is LDAP?

Definition and Purpose

LDAP, which stands for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, is a protocol used for accessing and managing directory information services over an IP network. It acts as a language that allows applications to communicate with directory services, which store information like user accounts, passwords, and other organizational data. Essentially, it enables applications to query and modify information within a directory, often used for authentication and authorization purposes.

Integration with GateKeeper

GateKeeper works with LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). Once LDAP on the domain controller is enabled, the GateKeeper Hub cloud can connect to on-premise active directory. GateKeeper integrates seamlessly with LDAP systems to provide centralized authentication combined with proximity-based access control. Users can log in automatically with a GateKeeper token, while their LDAP credentials are used behind the scenes for authentication. This integration enhances security, reduces password-related friction, and helps organizations meet compliance standards like CJIS, HIPAA, and CMMC.
