What is Bluetooth?

Definition and Purpose

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard that enables secure, short-range communication between electronic devices. It is commonly used to connect peripherals such as keyboards, headphones, and security tokens to computers or mobile devices. In security authentication and enterprise access management, Bluetooth facilitates passwordless authentication, proximity-based access control and automatic workstation locking/unlocking. Its low power usage and broad compatibility make it a practical solution for continuous and secure device interactions.

GateKeeper Proximity Tokens Using Bluetooth Technology

GateKeeper tokens utilize Bluetooth technology to enable proximity authentication for secure access to enterprise systems. When a user carrying a token approaches a registered workstation, the system detects the Bluetooth signal and automatically unlocks the device based on preset proximity thresholds. Conversely, when the user walks away, the signal weakens, triggering an automatic lock to prevent unauthorized access. This hands-free process eliminates the need for manual logins, enhances security compliance, and improves user convenience.
