Purpose and Function

Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) is a cybersecurity solution that continuously monitors endpoint devices for signs of threats and takes automated actions to contain them. Endpoints include physical devices connected to a network, such as mobile phones, desktops, laptops, virtual machines, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. These endpoints create multiple entry points that attackers can exploit to gain access to an organization’s systems.

EDR security tools log activity on endpoints at all times. They analyze this data to identify unusual behavior that may signal threats like ransomware or unauthorized access. EDR can automatically isolate suspicious devices, send alerts to security teams, and provide detailed logs to help investigate the cause, impact, and next steps needed to respond to an incident.
