What is Ransomware?
A very popular form of malware designed to lock a victim out of their computer, system, or files, then demand a ransom to regain access. In most cases, victims are emailed what appears to be a legitimate email from a trusted source, opens the email, and opens an attachment that contained malicious ransomware.
The most popular targets for ransomware attacks include hospitals, school districts, municipalities (state and local governments, law enforcement agencies, and critical infrastructure), small businesses, and large corporations. The FBI does not support paying ransoms. According to Atlas VPN, cybercrime revenue totals $1.5 trillion per year - more than most nation's GDP.
